The Journal of Health Economics and Outcomes Research is an online international journal covering all therapeutic areas and methodologies related to health economics and outcomes research. The journal employs a double-blind process for review so that neither the authors nor the reviewers are identified during the review phase.

Prospective reviewers

Prospective reviewers are asked to review the JHEOR policies and complete our Reviewer Application form or contact info@jheor.org via email with subject line “Reviewer Initiative of Interest.” Please provide all requested information, paying particular attention to other keyword areas besides health economics and/or outcomes research, such as oncology, hematology, retrospective studies, pharmacoepidemiology, etc.

Reviewer Responsibilities

Reviewers should consider their availability when asked to review, and respond to invitations within 24 hours, even when they are unable to review. Reviewers are also welcome to refer us to other experts in the field for review, if appropriate.

Reviewers should alert the editorial office if they may have a conflict, such as a relationship or funding arrangement that may bias a review of a manuscript. They may also recuse themselves altogether.

JHEOR reviewers are asked to provide fair, honest, and unbiased feedback on manuscripts within a timeframe of 14 days. They are asked to evaluate if the paper is relevant to JHEOR and scientifically sound, and if it may duplicate other published work. Reviewers are also asked to be as specific as possible, and to provide supporting evidence. The editor reserves the right to edit or remove any inappropriate comments.

Manuscripts submitted to JHEOR are the author’s confidential property. Reviewers are prohibited from sharing or using any materials or information from a review for personal interest or gain. Reviewers are welcome to have assistance from a colleague, but that individuals’ contributions must be identified in the submitted review comments to the editor. These individuals must also maintain the confidentiality of the manuscript as outlined above.

Reviewers are expected to delete or destroy reviewed manuscript materials after submitting their reviews. (See the journals complete confidentiality policy here)

Peer Review Process Overview

Once a submission is cleared by journal staff, the editor will invite two or more reviewers.

The reviewers are asked to follow the instructions above and submit their reviews within 14 days.

Once the reviews are submitted, the editor considers the reviewer feedback and issues a decision. The authors may be asked to revise the manuscript and resubmit in a timely fashion for re-review by the editor or the entire review team.
