JHEOR is looking for reviewers!
The Journal of Health Economics and Outcomes Research is looking for qualified reviewers to review manuscripts for the journal. We have a growing readership and need your help to get more papers out to the field to share good practice and ideas.
JHEOR’s mission is to combine the highest academic standards through peer review with a speedy publication process. We are looking for driven, motivated, and interested reviewers to employ a speedy work ethic and strict attention to detail to assist in the attainment of these goals.
JHEOR employs a double-blind review process for its manuscripts; the identities of the authors and the reviewers will be concealed from each other throughout the review process. Each manuscript that is submitted to JHEOR will be sent to at least two qualified reviewers with expertise in the subject.
For more information on JHEOR’s guidelines for authors, please reference the JHEOR website, here. For more information on JHEOR’s aim and scope, visit our about page, here. Additionally, please read JHEOR’s recently published articles.
Qualifications and Guidelines
Reviewers should be active in the scientific community with a demonstrated interest in health economics and outcomes research. Because of the multidisciplinary nature of the field, we will accept reviewers with backgrounds in a diverse set of specializations and fields, including but not limited to: social and behavioral sciences, economists, statisticians, epidemiologists, health care providers, and policy makers. Reviewers may be based in academic, community, and/or professional organizations.
We ask reviewers to evaluate the quality, merit, and relevance of submitted papers. Reviewer comments should be as complete and detailed as possible. They should also contain clear opinions about the strengths, weaknesses, relevance, and importance to the field. Suggestions should be intended to enhance the manuscript, as reviewers should consider themselves an outside perspective that manuscript author(s) need to excel.
Reviewers assess the article on criteria such as significance to the field, quality of research, and quality of writing, and then make one of three recommendations: accept the article, return it to the author(s) for revision, or reject. Generally, reviewers are asked to consider no more than two or three articles per year.
Once a reviewer is assigned a particular manuscript, he or she must commit to the following guidelines:
- Agree to submit manuscripts within a 20-day timeframe;
- Agree not to distribute manuscripts under review or to disclose information within the manuscript;
- Agree to review the first revision of a manuscript for which he/she provided the initial review;
- Agree to be released as a reviewer after two refusals or failures to review, to three late reviews;
- Agree to be evaluated as a reviewer, which may influence further selection to review.
